Lipoma of the greater Omentum

Abstract
The omental lipomas in children are very rare.
A four and half year old male child who complained of abdominal distension and a palpable mass at
the left upper quadrant of the abdomen, was admitted to the Dept. of Surgery, Chonnam University
Hospital on July 12, 1971. On physical examination a rather nodular, soft relatively mobile mass was
found filling the entire left abdomen. The mass was apparently non-tender. X-ray examination of the
upper G-I series was reported that there was a large soft tissue mass in the mid-abdomen with lobulated
calcification, and upward elevation of the stomach and posterior displacement of the small bowel.
Abdominal exploration found a soft yellowish mass, grossly appearing to be a liponma located between
the stomach and the lower abdominal cavity. It was rather easily excised, and the dissected mass was
measured 26X30X9cm. in size and about 2,300gm. in weight. The pathological diagnosis was lipoma
of the omentum. The patient was recovered uneventfully and discharged on the 12the post-operative day.
A brief review of the pertinent literatures was made.
